Launceston Medical Centre Dispensary
About Us
Our team is comprised of Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Dispensers and Dispensary Assistants.
We provide support to Prescribers to ensure that your medications are provided in a safe and timely manner.
We process prescriptions for all of our patients, whether they receive their medication here at the Medical Centre or from a community or online Pharmacy.
Along with the day-to-day processing of repeat requests and acute prescriptions, we also manage the monitoring of your medications to ensure that they remain safe and appropriate for you to continue using. This involves regular clinical reviews and with some medications it may also mean you need to have blood tests and other observations completed regularly.
We work closely with our community Pharmacy colleagues to help provide an all-round Pharmacy Service for our Patients and community as a whole.
How to order repeat prescriptions
There are a number of different ways that you can request your repeat medication:
- Via your NHS Account /NHS App – these can be accessed on PC, Laptop, Smart Phone and Tablet
- Via our website using SystmOnline -a login is required which can be provided by a member of Practice Staff
- Written request – this can be on the printed repeat medication slip or a handwritten request containing your Name and DOB along with the items you would like to request. These can be handed in at the Dispensary or dropped in the Prescription Box on the external wall of the Medical Centre.
- Using your nominated Pharmacy’s managed repeat service (Pharmacy dependant)
- Using our planned request service (for in-house Dispensing patients only)
If you find you cannot request a particular item using the online system, please either add this missing item to your request as an additional comment, request it as an ‘acute’ item or submit a written request. This may not require an appointment, often it will be an administrative review, and a new batch of repeat issues can be authorised.
We do not take medication requests over the phone, via email or via the online enquiry service.
We ask that you allow 5 working days from your prescription request before attending for collection, including those using our Community Pharmacies.

How to contact the Dispensary
The Dispensary is open Monday to Friday 08:30 to 18:00
We ask that, wherever possible, all Dispensary enquiries are submitted via the online enquiry system which can be accessed via this website using the ‘Dispensary Enquiry’ option.
The Dispensary phone line is open Monday to Friday from 09:00 – 12:30 and 14:00 – 17:30 – this phone line is only available to enquire if your medication is ready for collection or if you need help to complete the online enquiry form (link below)
Medication Reviews
Your medications will require a review periodically each year. This will vary depending on the particular medication you’re prescribed and the reason it has been prescribed for you.
This means that occasionally your medication request may need to be processed in a different way and be re-authorised by a Clinician.
If you do require an appointment for a full medication review, please use the online enquiry system to request an appointment using the ‘Dispensary Enquiry’ option followed by the ‘Medication Review’ option. A member of our team will then be in touch to let you know when to expect a call from a member of our Pharmacy Team to complete this.
Pharmacy First (Community Pharmacies)
Pharmacists can give you advice on a range of conditions and suggest medicines that can help.
They may also be able to offer treatment and some prescription medicine for some conditions, without you needing to see a GP (this is called Pharmacy First). They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

Many community pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.
