Protecting You and Our Community from Flu This Winter

Flu can cause serious illness, hospital admissions, and deaths each winter. The flu vaccine is the best way to protect yourself and others, especially if you are older or have a long-term health condition.

A Positive Local Update

Thanks to our patients, flu vaccination uptake in Launceston has increased from 65% to nearly 78%. This means more people are protected this winter.

What This Means for Launceston

For our 19,000 patients, this increase is expected to:
• Prevent around 100 cases of flu
• Avoid 1–3 hospital admissions
• Save lives over time, particularly among older and vulnerable people

Even small increases in vaccination make a real local difference.

Who Benefits Most?

• People with lung conditions (COPD, asthma): fewer chest infections
• People with heart disease or heart failure: lower risk of heart attacks and strokes
• People aged 65 and over: lower risk of severe illness, hospital admission, or death

For many people, the flu jab is one of the most important ways to protect their health.

***The vaccines are safe, quick, and could save you from spending the holidays unwell – or worse, passing illness to someone vulnerable.
